Striped Moss Blanket Square | Easy Moss Stitch Afghan Block Pattern

What You’ll Make

This  8” x 8” blanket square uses the Moss Stitch, so all you have to know is how to chain and single crochet. Because of the way the square alternates between three colors each row, there are very few ends to weave in! You’ll work the moss stitch in rows to create the center of the afghan block, then begin working it in rounds to create a wide border around the square. This is an excellent beginner project!

Helpful Notes

• The special stitch used in this pattern is the Moss Stitch, which is essentially chaining 1 and working a sc in the ch 1 space of the previous row.
• Each color change happens at the end of the row. Instead of fastening off at each color change, I prefer to drop the yarn and pick it back up after the next 2 rows are worked. The extra yarn will be covered up by the border.
• If you prefer to make a different size, simply chain an even number of stitches then work the pattern as written.
• Work more or less rows if you'd like your blanket longer or shorter.
